oil/air seperator.......?

So having shelled out my hard earned on a turbo and engine recon I figure nows a good time to fit an air/oil seperator to keep it all free from the dreaded black sludge.

Now I came across some guys website and he had a home made one which I thought was right up my street.....having lost the url, I've just created it from what I remember, well it aint rocket science is it?

What I'd like to know is this, can anyone think of a reason why the air/oil seperator can't drain back into the camcover?

All the seperators I've seen or heard of seem to have a valve to drain off the build up of oil in the trap but I see no reason why I cant construct my trap in such a way that the excess oil drains back down the hose between the seperator and the camcover.................

If anyone knows any different I'd be grateful to hear it.

Drain back sounds ok to me.Just make sure that if you use any filter material in the seperator that none of it can fall back into rocker cover or get sucked into the turbo.

Thanks Nev, I'm using coarse stainless steel pan scourers as I reckon these shouldn't break up...???

If you get any build up of pressure within the cam box this could cause you problems, pushing the return fluid the wrong way. Don't forget on many engines by removing the oil cap and placing your hand over the opening you can often feel evidence of backpressure, this would surely cause problems with the setup you propose.

......unless of course you propose to fit a valve on the return line, and only open it manually on occasion, when the motor is not running?

I would also include some very fine wire mesh as a safety measure in case it does.I have very little blowby and have not installed a catch can yet.If and when I do it will include the mesh.

Morr, when I mentioned draining the oil back into the camcover I meant by simply placing the separator and hosing in such a way that oil collecting in the separator would drain back down the pipe running from the seperator to the cam cover breather spigot(?) , so in effect the breather setup is the same but with the seperator in-line between the camcover breather and the airbox to turbo transfer. So this will not create any build up of pressure other than is present in the standard system.
