  • Gearbox and diff flange seals

Could anybody tell me the dimensions (i.e. inside diameter, outside diameter, thickness) off the oil seals for the output shafts (front and rear) from the transfer case, and on the (front and rear) differential input shafts.

I'm looking to buy spares, but don't want to open it up only to find I can't get them here. I realise that Roughtrax etc stock them, but I'm in Pakistan at present, and all spares are an order of magnitude cheaper here than in the EU. But I need the exact dimensions to get the right ones...

Maybe someone has a spare they could measure with some calipers??

    Cheers

Just avoid the hassle and get them from Toyota. They don't cost much and will be better than aftermarket anyway. Why try to save a little on seals when the effort to replace them is so much and cheap ones may fail.

The Toyota dealers here only do body panels.

This is Asia, I get everything from motor factors who import directly from Japan. Why buy a Koyo / NOK seal from Toyota for three times the price when you can get one through a Koyo / NOK stockist and cut out Toyota's middle men? Same goes for bearings etc etc. Toyota don't make most of their own bits, so you can get the same parts cheaper from the original manufacturers.

Remember Toyota make $$$$ on their spares, with far higher margins than on the cars themselves.

Here I can buy Genuine Toyota Shocks for about 20 quid, or get the exact same Tokico ones (just without Toyota stamped on them) for 7 quid.

So if anyone can give me the dimensions, that'd be grand.

I'd send Roughtrax an email and explain the situation, they are helpful chaps and may give you the info you need.

In the case of NOK Seals I can get them from Toyota cheaper than anywhere else. NOK supply vehicle manufacturers directly so it's often a waste of time sourcing them elsewhere. Been there done that, when I was selling Timing Belt Kits. I doubt anyone will have sizes for you unless they can measure the parts the seals fit. It's no use trying to measure a seal, especially internally, so unless the seals have sizes on them you have a problem.

To give you an example, a Japanese Koyo Camshaft seal here cost about US$1.15, and I bet Toyota would charge more than that. I've never come across a decent seal which doesn't have the three dimenisons in the rubber on the front face. If nothing's printed on the seal, I don't buy it.
