  • Timing belt tensioner.

Hi guys, I'm getting my KZN185 '96 P reg ready for a three week haul around Europe 4000 miles including all the mountainous regions you can think of (paragliding in seven countries).
I'm doing a full service including timing belt and wondered if I need to change the tensioner yet as the truck has only gone over the 50,000 mile mark this week? All advice more than welcome.

Replace the Idler but in the case of the Hydraulic Tensioner then it can be reused if not showing any signs of leakage. If you really want to be sure and not have to do anything for another 100,000Ks then change the lot including Cam and Crank seals as well as the fuel pump seal which is also in the Timing Cover.

All part numbers can be found here.

Thanks Nev, I took your advice and will be changing the lot. My local Toyota dealership was more than impressed when I gave them all the part numbers. Can you tell me how I go about removing the old seals as I haven't received a manual I bought on fleabay yet?
