Help Needed with Ball joint removal.

Trying to replace Upper & Lower Ball Joints.

I'm struggling to seperate the suspension from the upper ball joint.

I can't get the leverage to lift the suspnsion arm up and away so I can get the ball joint out. Any ideas...(not started lower one yet)

Help and pics please..(Also doing a photo and write up on this for everyone else to share)

jobs like that require some scaffold pole to swing on. as leverage is a must me thinks

going to try and undo the shock absorber and see if teh wish boen thingy's drops down enough to get to them........will post results as they happen...

Try jacking the whole suspension up (jack under bottom arm) then put some bits of wood or the like in between the top arm and the bump stop. When you let the jack down the top arm stays up and should allow room to get the ball joint out.

Your advise was just what was needed. The lower ball joint was a right ??????? to get off. Also needed to use a lump hammer to wack the wish bone to break the joint free. I was a bit scared of how hard to hit it at first until the brother in law turned up(Lorry Mechanic) and wacked it with all his might.

Anyway, I would only advise you do this if your confident or have prior experience.

I'm doing the drivers side soon. I'll do it 10 times quicker now....in fact I might start a part ball joint steering repair business

Get yourself a screw type balljoint splitter. You can then tighten the bolt up on it to put the balljoint under pressure and then it should split with a lot less work on the hammer.
