  • steering damper removal

    Help please guys,
I have been trying to remove and replace my steering damper and cant get it off!!!
I managed to get the smaller end free, and I got the split pin and nut off the other end but it does not matter what i try I cant get the rest of the pin out!!

I have used about half a can of bolt loosenning stuff and also tried hitting it, pulling on the old damper (its starting to bend so stopped doing that).

    Any other ideas please!!!

    Cheers

If you're talking about the ball joint end I found appling pressure using a jack, and then wacking it with a lump hammer worked.
Then again the hour of swearing at it before hand may have assisted in some obscure way.
    Gone from 4x4 to 1x2

hit the actual knucklethe bit where the ball joint goes into with a dead blow hammer and use the jack method that should do the trick.

Not sure if you mean the Idler Housing. But for anyone replacing bushes in this, theres no need to split balljoint.

If you're replacing top and bottom idler bushes:-

1-remove plate which supports the rubber splash guard,
2-remove 3 long bolts from idler housing,
3-prise off domed cap at the top,
          4-remove nut and large washer,
          5-slide housing off swivel bar,
6-prise top n bottom bushes from housing.

CLEAN everything, regrease, pop new bushes in and reassemble.

2 Bushes from Listers £9. If you want new bottom seal £8.50.

Unfortunately I got wrong parts that dont fit my 2.4 '92 surf and now struggling to acquire correct part no's

These are part no's that dont fit:-
          Bushes 90383-18068.
          Bottom seal 90304-31012
          . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
          . cheers atb blynde .
