I have a j plate surf 2.4 auto, I just wondered if anybody has had the same problem as I am at at present. Once park is selected it is impossible to move the gear selector without using the little red button......Does anybody know how to resolve this ? Is it a common fault ??? I have had the vehicle for a couple of months and had no problems.

You dont say if this is with the ignition on or off.
If its with the ignition off then using the red button is the only way.Say not always what you know, but always know what you say.

I had a Celica that would only let you out of Park if you had your foot on the brake - I can't remember if the automatic Surf is the same...Comment

Hi thanks for all the replys, it turned out that the fuse for my brake lights had died ! A 20p fuse saved the day !
