  • Soggy Brake Pedal

    Hi All,

I just replaced my front pads, what a piece of cake they are, but when I'd finished I pumped the brake a few times and found that the pedal very slowly sinks to the floor.

Took it for a test drive and the brakes are rubbish, it will not do an emergency stop. Yes it slows down rapidly but not quick enough.

Checked all the obvious for leaks / damage / incorrect fitting etc and found nothing.

    Master cylinder?

Everythings been cleaned and adjusted etc.

    Any ideas?

Compared to work I've done on brakes in the past, 2 things come to mind. Firstly, a brake pedal that slowly sinks sounds like either an air lock or fluid leak. Check all pipes, connectors, and seals for leaks and try bleeding (never hurts to have good fresh fluid and its supposed to be changed at 40,000 miles). Secondly, virtually all manufacturers recommend not braking hard for the first hundred miles or so to prevent the brake pads 'glassing' over and becoming less useful.

    Not sure if that helps.
Everything's easy, when you know how!

also if using new pads with old discs, until they bed in they will feel spongy due to the disc having curved wear and the pads being flat.... dunno about the pedal sinking though!?
