  • 4WD doesn't engage

Hi, I bought a nice Surf 3.0TD Automatic from 1994, but the 4wd doesn't work. The green lights is ON in the dash when I press the button for 4wd in Hi, or select Low-4WD, but it doesnt' work, the front wheels don't pull.
This afternoon I went under my Hilux Surf while my girl was moving the truck forward and backward on Low-4WD .... the cardan (pipe) from the engine spins until the front differential ... but the front wheels doesn't pull, there aren't engaged. And then, when the car was stopped and off, and still in Low-4Wd .... I moved the front axle by hand and it's spins ....the right and left shatf are connected, spinning in opposite ways, but not connected (engaged) with the cardan or main power from the engine. Something loose?? Drive pinion?? or just minor problem as solenoid or electric??
    Thanks Budys!!

Just thought I'd add the extra "e" as I forgot it before. Probably because I was extremely irritated.

There is plemnty of help from the search button,i've had the same problem, and looking around the site its usually either the vacume lines need replacing-easiest way i found was to just buy some new silicone vacume hose (think i used 5 meters) and start replacing from the vacumem pump on the alternator and follow the lines replacing as you go.2nd problem usually is the solinoids in the engine bay(at the back drivers side)hth rob.

Yes richard although im sure it was a combination of both the solinoids and old pipes.
