    As most of us know, the rear electric window was designed by the devil and for me at least, is nothing but trouble. My last problem was that the window would not go all the way down (within an inch of bottom) which is enough to prevent dropping the tail gate (so you can't replace the break light bulbs).

    Anyway, after some digging around I seem to have found the cause and thought I would share it here for those that need it.

    I dropped the window down as far as it would go, using a flat blade screwdriver gently prised off the carpetted cover.
    Under this is a metal protection plate with 5 or 6 screws holding it in place. Once they are removed the plate just falls off. Under the plate, there is a plastic protective cover. Gently remove this, you will need to put it back.

    DoorPic1 shows how the tailgate safety latch works to prevent the tailgate from openning (located lower centre of the tail gate). If you reach in and force the mechanism in the direction shown, you should be able to raise the handle and then drop the tailgate.
    To make it simpler I wound the window up around half way first and reached over to force the mechanisim.
    DO NOT DO THIS WITH THE GLASS MORE THAN HALF WAY UP.
    The glass can't support it's own weight and will break.

    This way, you will have better access to the bottom of the window mechanisim once you drop the tail gate.

    DoorPic2 shows the spots that need to be lubricated.
    Lots and lots of greese all over these two points (one either side of the window). It seems that water collects here, causes rust and prevents the mechanisim moving freely.

    Whilst your in here, using silicone lubricant, lube the insides of the two window guides. I also went happy with the grease on anything that looked like it moved.

    Put everything back together and crank the window up and down a few times. Hopefully, it will now move easier and go all the way up and down.

    The inside of you window runner looks pretty rusty.
    It is the case though that a yearly service will keep the window working as it should.
    I had to replace the motor in mine (salvaged from a drivers side MR2 door) but now I just do as you did and keep it lubed up, it works fine now.
