  • Spare wheel carrier (under slung)

Can anyone confirm that there are two types of winding mechanism, one mounted centrally above the spare, and one mounted on the nearside.Just took me about 1 hour to lower and raise my spare. There is no way the long handle can locate in the winding mech on my Surf which is the offset N/S type as there is a box welded immeadiately behind the hole in the rear bumper which only allows the handle to go down the centreline of the vehicle,it then locates perfectly in a short tube just behind the winding mech. I had to resort to getting under the rear and use a short flat bar in the slots to lower the wheel. If there are two types as previous threads suggest, has anyone got a centrally mounted winder spare.

AFAIK there are two types. In the "easy" one the bar enters at 90º of the bumper, the difficult one it's something like 45º.

When I did my SAS a friend stealed my ex spare hanger because mine was the easy one and his was a b*tch to hang down...
