  • Suspension

I Guys, I was told that my surf sits too low, when I look at other surfs I can see that’s true, but when I am driving the suspension sounds OK to me ( but it’s my first surf, I do not know how a proper suspension feels) does anybody with a narrow body 1992 surf with original wheels and 30/1.5/15 tyres tell me please what’s the distance of the surf to the ground. Also if suspensions what should I do? Go for the electrical ones from Toyota or for normal suspensions and loose the hard and normal options? How much do they cost? How can I check if the ones fitted are still good?
Thank for any advise on this.
    John

By the way thanks Guys, I manage to strip out the rear panel and sort out the rear window. ( I am getting better at this)

Can't help you with the details of the height your model should be from the ground. However, just to clear up any misconceptions you may have, your suspension basically comprises two items, a spring and a shock absorber (sometimes called a damper).
The height of your vehicle above the ground (ride height) is determined by the length and rating of the springs.
The shock absorbers will have no effect on the ride height of the vehicle, be they electrically adjustable or otherwise. These will however greatly effect the handling and comfort of the vehicle.

When looking at the ride height of your surf, don't forget to compare front to rear as it is reasonably common for the rear springs to compress with use and age. Measurements are usually taken from the centre of the axle/wheel to the underside of the arch. Measuring in this way means you can compare with other surfs with different size tyres, if you measure to the ground you will also have to compensate for tyre differences when making comparisons.

    Hope this helps a bit.

Generally the front factory setting is 13 1/2 to 14", front the top of the wheel rim, to the wheel arch, Our '94 measures 13" and the '89 is 12 1/2"

The truck should sit level, but you rarely find one that hasn't got saggy rear springs.
