  • Diff Question!!!

Hi, i have a 94 v6 4runner, which about 2 yrs ago the rear diff decided to shatter, in the mean time i bought a cheap diff from a toyota landcruiser, which has done fine so far except for different ratio to the front diff, recently bought a 92 2.4 td surf to break and was hoping i could replace both front and rear diffs with the surf ones ,
i am hoping they will go in and if they do what difference can i expect with the ratios,
as i did notice more top end with last diff change
    ??

what's the axle codes on the vin plates of each truck? should read

    trim/axle : ??? / G2??

    it's the second number we're interested in really, the G probably 28 or 29 then if it's 4 it's open diff if it's 5 it's LSD.

We're probably expecting to see G294 as the axle code from the 2.4 don't know what the v6 one will be though.

      Lots of 3.0ltrs run G294 G295
      Lots of 2.4ltrs run G144 G145

      The most common Surfs are
The G stands for 8" diff
      The 29= 4.100
      The 28= 4.300
      The 25= 4.556
      The 14= 4.875
The last number if 2= 2 Pinions Common in 4 cylinder models, but has been used in some V6 models
The last number if 4= 4 Pinions Common in V6 and Turbo Diesel
The last numer if 5 = 4 Pinions LSD as Ian said above
