  • Reverse gear & Neutral issues

I'm having problems with reverse gear & neutral. Also the Hi / Lo transfer lever.

No warning at all and suddenly I can't reverse properly, was fine yesterday not today. When reversing the truck needs loads of revs and goes backwards in judders. Did wonder if the brakes were binding but I can push the truck backwards by hand.

Also the truck is creeping forward while in neutral.

Finally I can only move the Hi / Lo transfer lever of the engine is off, whereas before it would move while in neutral.

Transmission fluid was slightly low but has been topped up.
Truck drives forwards and changes gear with no problem.

I have had a quick look underneath and can't see anything new or missing.

Is it a case of for the truck ??

sounds like something on the linkage between the gear lever and box may have slipped or somehow got damaged or bent. Get underneath and have a look at everything between where the gear lever comes out the bottom of the floorplan and where it goes into the box, looking for signs that something may have slipped or worked loose, a locking washer on mine corroded through and fell out, i lost reverse + neutral and got a whole load of creep in Park too.

Had a quick look last night and couldn't see anything.

Also forgot to mention that it seemed ok when i got home last night having played up all day.

Will have a good look underneath today and try adjusting the selector mech a bit to see if it helps.

If the the truck carries on the way it's going it'll be time to scrap it.

Kev if you want to borrow the 4wd selector from the breaker then you can to see if its the problem.it shouldn't take long to take off so let me know if you want it or ask Lee if he's got one you can borrow.

          Cheers Rich

It's not the 4WD bit that's the prob. It's the reverse / neutral selection.

Going to have a good look later when my son can operate the lever while i'm watching what happens.

Just hope that the selector needs adjustment. If gearbox stuffed then I'll prob be scrapping the truck.

i've still got the 2.4 box here from the 2nd breaker so if you do need one then i'm sure we can work a price out between us just to keep the truck going for a while

                      Update.

Having adjusted the linkage it no longer creeps forward in neutral and reverse seems to be better. Not holding my breath though.
