  • Old Man Emu lift kit

Since my recent troubles with the standard suspension I have decided to do a replacement / upgrade with OME shocks and dampers, but I am wondering what experiences others have had with doing this? Any possible problems I should look out for? The stated lift that I will get is 40mm...

I can't decide whether to go for medium or heavy load springs and what the possible benefits of each would be, they seem to be exactly the same price from TBR UK, I won't be carrying heavy loads much, other than occassionally two additional people sitting in the back, and I go offroad occassionally but nothing too hairy....

Old Man Emu are a bit more 'premium' suspension compared with say ProComp.

    Check http://www.trdparts4u.com/MC-CAHI-CEGF.aspx

Im not sure what the prices would be like with UK delivery but TBR are um.... far from cheap!!

Im sure if you go for OME you will not be disapointed!

I would personally contact TonyN either via this forum or at www.4x4toys.co.uk

He is a TJM dealer - might be cheaper. the member Antsheil has a lifted 3rd gen on here with TJM parts an it looks reeeeal nice!!

I had a look at ProComp (6-8 week delivery and around 400 quid), and TJM (even more expensive than OME, more than 700 quid, plus long delivery times), before, the entire kit from TBR with OME springs and dampers comes to around 540 quid, so I thought it seemed like a good compromise of quality / price, I'm just a bit confused about the best option to go for as far as the spring / damper strengths, also whether its worth replacing torsion bar and steering damper for OME ones aswell, would I need to do something with the existing torsion bar in relation to obtaining the 40mm lift... hmmm

I dont believe there are torsion bars on the 3rd gen. £540 seems like a decent price for OME.

If it were my truck i would go heavy duty springs. I prefer a firmer ride - plus when i load all my gear in the back it would be nice to know its not going to sag. Check the ome website for full details on what pros/cons each set up has.

steering damper - YES if your going for some big tyres! I havent done mine yet an im on big tyres. its a bit .... all over the place!!!

Awww cheers Rod, as you said the 3rd gens are springs all round so no need to worry about winding torsion bars up. As for the TJM kit, it's the muts nuts and i love the ride, firmer but better all round being gas filled struts as opposed to oil. A little more expensive than OME but worth every penny (£!!!!).

Perhaps I'd consider the TJM kit if I had more time on my hands, but I'm out in Macedonia at the moment and need something that can be shipped to me quickly, the OME stuff gets sent from Germany next day with DHL. I think my current suspension is completely knackered probably from the rough roads here, keep gettin weird noises coming from the back now when goin over bumps etc...

Thanks for pointing out about the torsion bars, I'm certainly no mechanic! I'll be getting a 4x4 specialist to fit the lift kit, I wouldn't trust meself with it!

I hadn't thought about tyres actually, what size tyres do you think I can fit with a 40mm lift? Just got standard 265 / 70 x R16 with General Grabber all weather at the moment, wouldn't mind some ATs...

Good advice there from the other folks. I, too have decided to go with OME shocks. I have fitted the steering stabiliser and it makes quite a difference.
I have the rear- shocks on back order and will do the front later. No need to change the torsion bars. Tyres- you`ll need a body-lift as well to fit 33".
