Sound like the heat control is not opening the matrix for the hot coolant to flow through it.
Never had need to access mine so can't say for sure how difficult it is to find it. If the motor is under warranty why don't you contact Trading standards, CAB for advice on where to go with this dealer. They have, from what you say, supplied a vehicle that does not stand up as merchantable quaility. Suggest if they are struggling to fix it, you'll take it to Toyota dealer to be fixed and they can pick up the bill.
Say not always what you know, but always know what you say.

      Heater control

My problem after buying Surf was Matrix leaking and heater control busted. Bought heater control on this site for £40 and works perfectly. Good Luck

Thank you so much for your reply... Oh I have tried everything I can! Ive been to trading standards and followed there advice...The end verdict being TAKE THEM TO COURT!!! The court costs will break the bank considering weve just had to pay for all the repairs of which total to £1500. Im pretty BROKE!
I love this Surf but.... BIG BUT, Natalie has had enough! I just need to get the heating fixed and then maybe just maybe we get to keep it!
Do you have any idea where I can get this sorted once and for all?

I think that someone on here mentioned that Newbury 4x4 were good and reliable and are not too far from Swindon. They may be able to do something for you.

It sounds like one of the heater controls has become disconnected - it's all controlled by relays I think, the cables only go from the control panel to a relay that actually switches the heat on and off. Like most later cars, the heater matrix is always in circuit and always hot, it's the position of the flaps that determines whether you get hot air or cold.

As long as there is no blockage in the matrix then I would think that is your problem. Any decent garage should really be able to help, the ventilation system on the Surf is not any different to most Toyotas of the same period.

For my money though steer clear of main dealers, go to a small "back street" garage that only makes money on fixing cars and works by recommendation. These guys tend to get a bad rep in the motoring press however generally I think they are far better at diagnosing and fixing problems than the big boys.

            Cheers and good luck.

This is not correct Andy. The heater control is cable operated.Hot coolant only flows through when open. The valve is on firewall to left of fuel filter with an inlet and outlet hose..The lever in dash opens and closes this valve. This is the reason for turning to hot to prevent air locks when filling cooling system.

              Keir

The cable may be broken or disconnected from the dash or valve end.If cable is broken then manually turn arm on valve to the right to open. This should open the flow to heater so you can check for heat in vehicle.

Yes you are right, can't remember where I read that which I posted but I just looked at my truck and the valve is there.

Sorry, left my brain in bed this morning.

                Cheers

That's ok Andy.I'm not always right either. You may be thinking about the buttons. These are all either electronic or vacuum controlled on most vehicles now.At least I think they are.

You may find this sounds silly but... I need some kind of guidence as I'm not sure how to get to the arm? how and where do I get to it? I would really like to get to know my Surf...Do you have any pics or written step by step instructions?
I thank you so much for the help you have given me so far

The arm is on the valve - right by the bulkhead in line of one of the heater hoses (these are the 3/4 inch hoses that come from the engine and go through the bulkhead)

                      Cheers

                        Okie dokie Thank you Andy.

I managed to locate the arm and now we have heat! Yippeeeeeeeee
The question now is... How do I locate the actual problem as to why i can't control the heat via the heating control in the car!? Now that we've established there is heat how do i get it up and running properly?
                        Many thanks guys

Well now you have heat it points to a problem with the cable. The cable is a solid single strand of wire and is unlikely (but still possible) to break.Make sure cable is connected at valve end. They are bent to a certain shape and fit into the hole on the small lever.Move the heater control in vehicle and you should feel a resistance. If the lever moves easily then cable may bo disconnected behind dash.If this is the case then you will have to remove the necessary dash parts to gain access to it.I have not taken dash apart yet so not sure where to start for this.
