    a question from my brother
    what's involved in changing a clutch on a 93' 2.4td, his mechanic recons its a job for a 4x4 specialist coz of weights and transfer boxes,
    also is there any adjustment as his tows his horse box ok it's just the bitting point is just above the carpet, travel wise and when engageing reverse it crunches

    BUGGA i'm glad 3rd gens have no trouble with the DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL
    He needs to buy the complete kit from Roughtrax to replace the existing one if he has to

        The only adjustment on the pedal freeplay, on the rod from the pedal to the clutch master cylinder. But it dosn't normally need messing with.

        It sounds like the clutch has worn out, it might not be slipping yet, but is thin enough to use up all the pedal travel.

        Get under the car and get someone to press the pedal and watch the clutch fork move, then see if you can move it any further with a lever or bar to rule out a weak slave or master cylinder, but its normally just a worn clutch.

        You don't need a specialist, the gearbox isn't stupidly heavy, I do them on my own but easier with two to lift it. Just take the t/case off first, then the gearbox on its own and its managable.
