  • Steam on 2.4

Hi all. Its my first time here and was looking for a little advice. Have just purchased a 2.4 surf (1993) with head probs. I.ve changed the head for a brand new one from a good supplier and i've fitted it myself so i know its on correctly.
However, On starting to bleed the coolant system I have noticed that when the system is under pressure I am getting a small leak and steam coming from the general area of the inlet manifold. Its not from the head but i did notice small water pipes from the thermostat housing running out of sight under the inlet manifold...Does anyone know whats at the end of said pipes so I can try and rectify the problem so I can get the surf on the road.

Also if anyone would like advice on any aspect of replacing the head as a DIY job please ask and ill help as much as I can!!!

    Many Thanks: Phill!

Is it the pipes for the rear heaters?

They go direct to the heater and not through the thermostat .

Thanks. Not sure they;re for the rear heater though. To be more precise they are 2 (i think) very small pipes that run straight off the bottom of the thermostat housing and disapear beneath the inlet manifold / throttle body area. Its too dark to look now!

      Many thanks mate.

It either those or the ones that go to the throttle valve housing on the intake.

They sound more like the ones. Any idea why they could be leaking??? Is there a small valve or anything on the throttle body or is it bolted beneath it??? Just wandering if its anythin daft like that as im dying to get her out on the road.

They just go into the manifold and heat the intake, check the ends of the hoses, sometimes the hoses go porous and can leak out off the cut ends of the hoses. If they feel soft or look distorted just replace them.
