  • Underslung spare wheel

How the hell do I get it off? It's flat and could do with it being replaced/repaired.

I've been underneath and can see no clear way of doing it.

    Any help is appreciated.

Under the rear seat base there should be a long bar that you insert through the hole in the bumper and engage into the winding mechanism. There should be a winding handle in the tool kit in one of the storage compartments in the cargo area, the same handle thats used to operate the jack, that is also under the rear seat behind a metal plate.

I've found the bar mate and I'm pretty certain I've seen the hole.

Thanks for the quick response. Hopefully I'll sort it out tonight.

My first Surf was missing part of the toolkit - the handle that fits on the bar for doing this, so I had to raise/lower the spare by hand.

If you look under the back of the truck, to the left of the spare, you should find the winding mechanism. There is a little knob that you can turn by hand that lowers/raises the spare.

Sorted the spare out guys. Thanks.

Another dumb question - How do I open the rear seats to get to the jack?

in the gap between the seat and the back rest there should be a loop or something that you pull and that releases the catch and the seat section tips up towards the front seat. Under the seat are some compartments where jack and other bits and bobs can be found.

It's possible to fit up to a 33" x 12" MT tyre underneath with a bit of 'jiggery pokery'. Not sure if you'd get a 35" tyre under there though without major re-work?
