  • Four wheel drive

The light indicator on the dash does not always come on when I engage 4 wheel drive, I am not sure whether it is the light faulty or if the 4 wheel drive is on or not, has anyone else had a similar problem.

I have a Surf SSR 2.4 turbo diesel automatic.

Don't select 4wd on the grippy stuff.
Take it out on some mud and select 4wd, then floor it and see if fronts as well as rears spin, if so its a faulty bulb. If not its the 4wd selector, this works off of vacuum, so check the hoses under the bonnet for splits and leaks. Start off with the metal tube across the engine, down the side of this is a small tube with a rubber tube attached to each end this is the vacuum for the turbo.

you'll hear it engaging aswell... doesn't always engage at first depending what you're driving on... try driving backwards and forwards a bit and that should do it.

Thanks for the tip about the hoses, we had snow today and the 4 wheel drive is definatly not on! Have checked under the bonnet and it seems there is a split in one of the hoses. Hopefully this is the problem and I will have it sorted soon.
