  • front wheel bearings

    Hi Folks,
Planning on doing the front wheel bearings. What do I need and is the kit best from Roughtrax or the parts from Milners?
Is it inner and outer bearing, hub seal gasket? What about the bronze bushes, is it best to change them at the same time?
    cheers,
    chris

go with the roughtrax bearings Chris as the milners ones have been known to break up.Someone will let you know exactly what you need unless you ring r/trax and talk to Barry

      Hi Chris
am in the middle of doing these as part of a bearing/brake/bushes major overhaul at the mo and have encountered quite a few probs (and got round them, I think) unfortunately I did ask for help but it seems everyone is off roading this weekend so have had to do the job 'blind', have also encountered some minor probs with the parts supplied, however if my calipers were not siesed I would probably be near to compleation now, I have made up some rudimentary 'special tools' and can lend these to you, PM me a land line number and we can talk further

Cheers Richard- so Roughtrax ones are better? I see they sell a kit for each side.
Tony, I read you post re: the odd fitment of the parts. Sorry no-one replied- I could`nt contribute any help. I think all the boff`s are either away or in the workshop! Did you get the parts from Milners?

No Mate from roughtrax - I was suprised and a little anoyed, anyway I am speaking to them tomorrow a.m. - got to order more bits but if you want to chat let me have your landline and I'll give you a call, I now know the frustration of doing the job blind as none of the experts were here when needed....typical (spose they were off enjoying them selves), wouldnt want you to have the same probs

When I did mine, the only special tool I had was the assistance of an OhSumpremeBeing

The only specialist tool to do the job professionally is a 55mm box spanner/socket. However they're next to impossible/very expensive to get hold of, so it's best to substitute a cold chisel and hammer to get the big nuts off. Other than that's it's pretty easy to do. If you need a hand just let me know and I'll pop over, I'm free most of this week.

probably didn't make it clear the tools are for fitting the bronze bushes -bearings are a dream to do.....as long as the oil seals are the right size

Tony- there`s room now! If I am doing the bushes too, no doubt I`ll be talking to you soon!
Thanks for all your replies. Paul, thanks for offering to help- not planning on doing them this week though. Marky, thanks for the link.
So, folks, to conclude- I need 2 front wheel bearing kits from Roughtrax. Now, the bronze bushes, do I change them? And if so, is it an inner and outer per side? And...... do roughtrax sell them?
                    cheers,
                    chris
