It really does sound like glow plugs want changed, fuel is obviously there to be used. System maybe functioning as it should, just plugs might be knackered and not getting hot. Theyre only about £7 each, And then you know its done anyway.

Still also worth doing no-return valve for elimination, Lucas supply them cheap or get one of a car at breakers

found the problem now need to find cure i took the fuel pipe off that gos from the filter houseing to the injector pump then i pumped the manual pump no diesel came out so i took the pipe of that comes from the fuel tank to the filter houseing this had no deisel in the line it seems that soon as the engine is switched off the deisel in the lines from the tank runs back into the fuel tank is there a fuel pump between the fuel tank and the filter houseing any ideas
            thanks

There isnt a fuel pump further back, but runback is obviously your problem. What i would do is get some rubber fuel hose and cut the supply line by the tank, connect hose with jubilee clip, and send it through the chassis safely i.e M.O.T worthy, and run it up to the lift pump ( where filter is ), and likewise from filter to pump. All new hose means no air leaks. I would also fit non-return valve close to tank aswell.

Sounds like a bodge but its safe long lasting and cheap, should solve your problem.

Ant reason really, corrosion finally breaching lines, branch hitting fuel line, Rubber hose perished and developed crack. They are impossible to find sometimes thats why i recommend complete renewing, its cheaper than any diagnostic methods, and you can then completely rule it out. I had a car that did that once and it solved my problems, after all diesel engines all work on same principle. Cost me all of about £30 and an hour to do, remember to prime with pump to save battery and fill up your filter with diesel first, or redex.

Also worth trying replace o-ring on diesel tank cap, any garage should be able supply one roughly the right size.

                  Hope this helps

if you get a hiss on opening the fuel filler cap, its possible you have a vacuum in the tank due to the equalisation valve being stuffed. I had this in my old merc - caused the fuel to be pulled back into the tank. solved with a small hole drilled into the fuel filler cap.

Glad you got it sorted, was an o-ring needed? At least you know it WAS a leak and nothing serious.

Hmmm - I get a hiss when I open the filler cap - where is this "equalisation valve"?
