  • Anyone Help With This One, Please?

    Hi All,

    Good to be back.

Righto, I am having to replace all my ball joints for the MOT and I am sort of half way through one side!

I need a ball joint splitter which I will get tomorrow.

Anyhow, while I unbolted the upper and lower ball joints on one side the hub became very loose and the shaft seemed to "pop out" from where it is attached to the engine.

    See picture!

BTW This picture is an ole one just too show location of shaft that popped out!

Is this a problem or is this supposed to happen?

It can be popped back again without any issues!

I'm sorry but my technical jargon is $$$$ poor!

    Thanks!

This can happen with the inner joint because there is nothing to retain the tripod joint in the housing when the drive shaft is extended beyond the normal operating position. Just make sure it goes back in the same position without twisting the boot.

That's a disgustingly clean vehicle chassis.
