3rd gen 3ltr autobox problem

Hi all, autobox has an intermittant fault which seems to be caused by the speedo, when turning on the ignition speedo flicks up to 45mph. when you drive off it tryes to go in 2nd gear then ok until 4th which only drops in when you back off the gas. have changed the solenoids in box but no joy.
does the ecu control the gearbox or is there a trans control unit & where is the flippin thing! or is it the speedo pickup? any help would be gratefully recived thanks.

Have you got fault codes? Connect W and E1 together in the Diagnostics box, and count the flashes of the overdrive light.

Hi Tony, have just tried that put paper clip in, turned ign on, od light did not flash!

Try TE1 and E1, although 3rd gen gearbox should be W and E1, you never know!

thanks for your help Tony, think i have traced problem to the speedo converter,when you disconnect it gearbox goes back to normal, just no speedo at mo!
