  • Collective Views Required.......

Hi all, its me, Mr Paranoia

I could do with your collective views on a list of minor woes on my replaced engine:

The red coolant that is used in these engines.... should it be clear, clean red or a cloudy brown / red colour ?I'm guessing the former but want to get my facts straight before I shout at someone about it

Steering pumps don't leak do they??? (rhetorical question !)

The beast lacks all its old power, with no pull at all over 75, She has to be hammered everywhere to keep up with anything - although it seems to be getting better and can get to 80 now havong had some redex BUT seems to be doing about 17mpg (used to get 20ish +) - along with this I've noticed a sort of spitting / missing note from the exhaust and I'd swear she's 'pinking' from the top end - could this be a combination of injector problems and or maybe pump timming ?

Add this to the two 'tested' glow plugs that were kn4ckered, the air intake pipe thats had the end ripped off and the truck is now booked into the garage for Wednsday.

I'd appreciate your collective views on what they SHOULD be doing.

Can't you just tell that the bloke who fitted and 'test drove' the motor drives a Wange Wover diesel ???????????

sounds like the injectors could be dripping diesel, they should emit a fine spray, take them out and get a diesel specialist to test them, or put your others in out of the old engine, if your power steering pump is leaking fit your other, the pinking is just diesel knock, quite normal

Gemini, the spitty noise is like a misfire when you rev it or accelerate hard .... could this still be the case ?

Hope so, coz I'm feeling better already !

yes, the spray has to be correct for the diesel to burn properly, is it smoking, if so what colour, i would definately try the old injectors in first

Thats the odd / nice thing, no abnormal smoke at all. Even on startup now. Just the usual haze at night with lights behind you.

still go for injectors first, if redex has made it slightly better, one of them could be gummed up, and not spraying enough which will cause the misfire, when they are dripping it is more noticable when idleing, if you want to give them a proper clean try this neat in the filter

The Missing the engine is creating could be the TPS (throttle position sensor) i had to replace mine because when i first got the Surf and reved it it would splutter just around 2800rpm, this was the throttle position sensor playing up. replaced it and it works fine.
The power problem could be dribbling injectors or your fuel pump timing is out. Am having mine re-built as we speak because of that. also having it modified for a bit more up and go.
              cheers
              Dan.
