  • Front Hub Strip Down

I have a 91 2.4l Surf with FREE WHEELING HUBS

I need to adjust the wheel bearings.

What do I need to watch out for when removing the free wheel hub assembly?

Is it released by the bolts on the hub flange or the small screws on the free wheel selector face?

I also have play in the steering arm ball joint,(drivers Side) can this be nipped up or is it a replacement job?

    Appreciate any help.

    Cheers Taz

    Try here:

I would say replace the ball joint.

Stripped down the hub and checked the bearing today.

Re-greased and re-fitted it. Feels smooth

Also replaced the Pitman bracket that had rather a lot of wear in it

      TIP

Before trying to removed the Pitman arm - BEG, STEAL, OR BORROW

a PULLING KIT. (2 LEG will work fine)

The chances of splitting either end without is extremly difficult

Anyway, borrowed one and hey presto off it popped.

      New one fitted easily enough.

Hope this helps anyone in the future.
