  • Shock Question!

    Hi,

I have got Rancho RS9000 shocks all around and I am in the process of renewing the boots and giving them a facelift etc.

While doing this I noticed the small knob on the bottom of the shock with the settings "1 to 9" on the face of the dial!

Anyone know what this is for and what the settings are?

I presume it is to harden or soften the ride but what should I set them too?

I have always considered the shocks to be a bit "bumpy" and would ideally like to "soften" the ride!

    Any advice appreciated!

Hi, what number is it set to now?

If it's at 9 then decrease it, if it's at 1, increase it.

It will be the hard/soft option.

      Re

It's pretty hard to determine which way the dial goes to 1 or 9, the only way I have of noticing any difference is that if I turn it one way the shock is harder to pull out and the other way it is easier.

Which corresponds to a smoother ride though?

Is the "harder to move" option a bouncier ride or do I need it at it's softest option?

I'm presuming that the harder the shock resists movement the more bouncier and firmer the ride will be?

      Am I right!

(I am stooopid when it comes to this stuff, please forgive my ignorance!)

Yes, the stiffer the shock the harder the ride, for now i'd put it about half way and see how it goes.

i have those shocks mate. turn them clockwise to harden the ride. its adjusting the damping, mine are still on 9 from some offroad stuff but its jiggly! I too only found out they adjusted after I had the Surf a while but they were on setting 1 I think! about 6-7 is quite good I find, any less and i hit the bump stops all the time. on the softer settings it will be smooth but you might get seasick.

by the way you can get replacement bushes etc so the shocks should last ages!
