  • Head gasket

Just had my 1991 surf recoverd from the A1 with a blown headgasket. Anyone in the Rutland Water area know any mechanics that will be able to sort without ripping me off. Model is 2.4 SSRX. cooling system also pressurised and split radiator.

    many thanks

I hate to break the bad news, but if its only a head gasket you are truly blessed. Its almost certainly going to be the head. When you remove it look for cracks between the valves. When you replace it make sure its the "uprated" 3L type head as available from STEVO ( engine company stockport) ad at top of page. If there was no overheat however, and just a bit of pressurising and water loss, it might be worth changing your rad cap and stat as a first step, ensuring you bleed all air from the system
