  • Radiators

    Hi folks,
    I have just brought a SSR-X 2.4TD and I love it!!!!!!!!
But I have also started to hear all the horror stories about the haeds and overheating, and I was told it would be a good idea to change the rad from the jap microbore type to a british aftermarket job. My Surf has only got 50,000 miles on the clock and I am not getting any trouble at the moment. Any body got any views on the subject and if so anybody know were I can get one??

Milners do a brand new one which should be sufficient (jap import) as most of the ones that come on surfs are blocked full of crud. £120 I think !

      Think on

      Hi

Well don't think you'll cure the cylinder head problems by changing the radiator - it was a design flaw in the head and the best rad in the world won't help.

Do yourself a search on cylinder heads and you'll become painfully aware!!

Please don't forget that not all 2.4's suffer the head problem. Many apear on the forum because more people report bad ones rather than trouble free ones. People have mixed opinions, Some 2.4's are fine and have never had a problem, design fault or not. Do not get disillusioned. I t depends who you speak to, but alot of other imported vehicles suffer this and it's generally due to their age and poor servicing. It will be interesting to see some of the 3 ltrs (heads have gone on these also) as they get older and imported. My advice is to read the froum posts and also search on the web for other vehicles suffering this (including landys, Pajeros) It's more common than you think !!
