  • Free wheel hubs?

How hard is it to put free wheel hubs on a surf that doesn't have them? I'm only looking to do the front wheels, but I've heard the front half shafts also need to be changed??
Thx in advance 4 any input.

Its no hassle, but pickup ones don't fit, you need IFS specific hubs.

All the usual places sell different brands, (including me, only sell Warn Premiums, but they are best next to Original Toyota ones, although I'm waiting for some to come from the US ATM)

They just replace the drive flanges on the hubs.

About £140/150 a pair, but depends on exchange rate.

Easy bolt on job. Did mine few weeks ago. Supposed to be able to do it with wheel on but it`s easier to get the old hub off with the wheel off.

When you say they just replace they "drive flanges", does that mean everything you need to do the job is included in the hub kits? i.e. the new free wheel hubs replace the old drive flanges. (sorry, i'm sure that sounds a bit dense , but the surf is very new to me and although i'm capable of doing jobs like this i like to have a complete outline of the job before i get into it and then find i need more parts to complete)

Exactly, its as simple as that.

Six nuts hold the flange on, and a bolt stops the shaft pulling through the middle of the flange, remove all these (the six nuts hold in tapered cone washers, the edge of the flange needs a smack with a hammer to pop them off after the nuts are undone)

Then you bolt the manual hub body on, fit the bolt in the end of the shaft, and fit the lid of the manual hub on and its done.

Let me know when you get some in please Tony. The exchange rate is in our favour! I fancy taking the strain off the front end on the roads.
