Aircon belt adjustment

Tried the aircon this weekend and although it worked ok there was a squeeling from the drive belt so I tried to adjust it today.
However I could not for the life of me shift the nut in the centre of the idler pulley and finished up virtually mangling it.
Has anyone else had the same problem and if so how did you sort it?
If I do have to chop it off is it a standard thread or am I going to have to move heaven and earth to replace it.

when i did mine a couple of months back it was tight as hell to undo but i did manage to get it undone without damaging it tho.If you can't get one from a breaker then try Toyota dealer i wouldn't think they would cost much
