Hi Bud, I was always taught as a lad many moons ago to let a Turbo "warm"
(Lubricate & get up ta Working Temperature) TURBO, Not the Engine !!
It could be different nowadays tho ..... but I still give it 5 minutes anyway !!!

I dont think you do. You start it up and off you go, hit the road. Diesels like to work. They prefer it to ticking over on light/no load.

From cold, I always let mine tick-over on idle-up for a couple of minutes before driving off.
If the engine is already warm, just start and go.

Start it up. let the oil pressure come off the bottom, insert seat belt, apply radio, select gear, un apply handbrake, apply right foot!

                Then remember to open gates

I generally don't let my motors tick over for long..... but then again I don't thrash them until they are nice and warm either!

ihave always been taught to let them idle up and down (before driving and after driving) for about 2-3 minutes each time to allow the turbo to get warm and oil to circulate and then to cool and come down to normal speed...
                  hope it helps

thats bull, start up and drive off straight away from cold ,so as to bring the oil pressure up quickly the distribute the oil around the system quicker.

more damage is done if left there to sit idle for a few minutes, well known fact that.
