  • Little spring inside fuel pump.

The guy at Milners said that I can take the lid off my fuel pump without having to disconnect it....

He said to watch out for a 'spring' though, what was he talking about?

He's probably talking about the pre-EFI trucks, they have lots of junk under the lid instead of just the electrical plug thats on the EFI trucks.

Ok cool. And you are sure mine is an 'efi' one then bud?

I just called them and they said replacing the rocker cover (which I bought for £4 from Milners) is a 3 hour job. These are experienced mechanics too!!!! Is he taking the wee wee here or not?

If you fill in your profile people can advise better.
I'm sure you could do it in 3 hours, if you took your time.

Should be if its a 93. You'll have EFI Turbo Diesel sticker on the silver pipe from the turbo across the top of the engine.

Rocker cover gasket is no biggy, you'll need to take off the 2 intake pipes, the black one to the Turbo, and the silver one from the turbo to the intake manifold.

Then you get to all the rocker cover bolts.

The rocker covers are normally well stuck on, it oftne takes lots of prying and levering to get them off, normally this is why they leak, check its flat, probably someone has had it off in the past. Also there are small metal collers that sit in the gasket bolt holes under the rocker cover, be carefull these don't fall out and dissappear into the motor as you lift the cover off. They should come off wit the rocker cover.

Plus, if they are missing, the cover will get deformed as you tighten the screw when doing it up, so check you have them all, it may also be why its leaking.

It'll be obvious when you do it.

Ok, I take it the two pipes come off without much hassle, they won't be full of fuel or oil or anything?

Might be a little oil in them, but don't worry about it, its just blow by from the PCV system. The black one is just a couple of small bolts and jubilee clips, the silver one has tougher clips to get off, they should lock open, and let you wiggle it off.

It will all become clear when you do it.
