  • Timing Belt.

    Hi.

    I have a K Reg Hilux Surf. 93,000 miles.

The guy I bought it off had no paperwork for the work done on it by the garage / importer he bought it off. I need to know if it needs its timing belt changed as I understand that if the timing belt goes the car is dead.

Does anyone know anything about this? How can I check if the belt needs replacing?

Does the belt need replacing on these cars? If so, when?

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Jon.

    Hi Razorhoof

If you don't have paperwork to say the belts been changed recently, then, for piece of mind get it & the temsioners changed as soon as you can.

A decent garage should not charge more than about £150.00 which is a lot, lot cheaper than the repair bill if the belt snaps.

    hope this helps

Post your vehicle details in your profile - it helps!

The 2.4 is much more complicated than the 3.0 to change the belt. They need changing at 100,000kms (60,000miles).

I changed my own - I would say I am a 'competent' mechanic - I have a fair selection of tools but that's it.

        If you've got a 2.4 I think a garage will want more than £150.

Learn how to use the search button - you'll be amazed at what you'll find out.

EDIT - just noticed you got a 2.4 (other thread)!

talk about using the search button LMAO
