  • Safety Question

I have a suspected knackered front diff.
While I source the replacement parts and to save some time,is it possible to remove the front diff and half shafts, and still be able to drive safely or are my wheels going to fall off?

Nah, it'll be fine, the front hubs are fully floating, so don't need an axle to hold them up. (remove the front prop as well )

Try and avoid splashing though mud to keep the hub bushes clean.

      Cheers, Tony.
I dont suppose you have any 4.1:1 diffs floating around too, do you?

Is the only way to identify the gear ratio by the VIN plate axle code or by counting teeth?

The pinions flanges are colour coded with a blob of paint by the nut. Orange is 4:1

No, the diff got chewed doing far less dramatic stunts.

But, i picked the wrong week to take it off though. All this snow and 2WD only.. not happy!!!!
