  • rear wheel bearing wear tolerances

    Hiya

whats the maximum allowed wear in rear wheel bearings?
I have had the drums off the back this morning to check brake pads and clean things up a bit and check wear on drums
    I was able to push/pull the rear half-shaft in-out about 0.4 to 0.5mm - which I checked using a dial-guage rather than eyeballing it
    is this acceptable movement ?

brake pads down to 1.6-2mm, so I guess getting close to replacement time
they seem to wear unevenly, i.e. lower or upper parts have difference amount of wear, looks to me this is due to the way the brake system works, i.e. levering from top

0.7mm according to Max Ellery manuals, Official Toyota manual dosn't mention a spec, just how to change it.

cool thanks Tony - I had looked in the Haynes manual, but it just said how to change it too!
so its still in spec with .2mm to spare - phew...
I was not looking forward to changing it, as looks a pig of job unless you have a monster press like you do!

      cheers
