  • 4WD button

    Hi all,
I'm test driving a new surf tomorrow (SSR-X on a K plate) but I noticed today that the 4WD button was pressed in, not sure if it was done while it was being cleaned or if has been like that whilst it has been driven on the road, is there anything obvious that could be wrong with the surf and how much damage would it have caused, I want to be able to tell when I'm driving it tomorrow before I do a deal on it other than that its in mint condition and I'm getting a good deal on it so I want it to be spot on.

if the button has been pressed in for a while and the surf driven then there is a chance of transmission wind up which could possibly turn out to be expensive

how much are they selling the surf for and is it a 3l or 2.4.Just being nosey that's all

Took it out for a drive today seems ok the only thing I'm concerned with is that when its stopped and just about to pull away it takes a while for the wheels to engage before it actually moves. Is this anything to worry about?

If it does it from cold, then it's the transmission fluid that's too cold and needs to circulate first before the gears will engage. Or the fluid level is low/needs changing.

It seemed ok when it was cold it started happening when it was warm. Do you think it might have something to do with the 4WD button being pressed in beforehand? (I didn't drive it in 4WD)

Nah, it's nothing to do with the 4WD, it sounds like the transmission fluid needs changing or mybe just topping up.
Check the level with the engine running, and it should be half way between the hot and cold marks on the dipstick.

Also, the fluid should be the colour of red wine and not a dirty brown colour.

Sorry about this but is the transmission fluid the normal oil that you check with the dipstick?

It's the orange dipstick near the windscreen. The yellow dipstick towards the front is for the engine oil.

Checked the transmission fluid and it does seem to be on the low side, where is the best place to buy some and where do I fill it up?

you fill it thru the dip-stick so you will need a small funnel or similar.
you can get it from halfords ,motorworld etc
