What it really needs is a large diameter pipe going to the outside somewhere, such as upwards through a hole in the bonnet (but it will suck in rain water) or sideways out of the wing.
The air intake is just behind the headlight, where it gets pretty wet - in the wet.
Thats why peeps fit snorkles - high intake = safer wading and less dust if crossing deserts etc.Another member of the 'A' team

Anyhow, I was thinking more of when the truck is parked up a vertical inlet on the bonnet will just fill up, whereas a horizontal pipe behind the headlight won't.
There's a drain hole in the bottom of the filter housing, and clean air is sucked out the top of the housing through the centre of the filter, which is seal in the housing anyway.

Hmm, perhaps a nice mesh duct in the top of the bonnet then.... should be easy enough, but how much more power will it make with an unrestricted cold air feed over the normal behind-the-headlight inlet?
I noticed when towing that it wouldn't do above 50 on a slight incline, foot to the floor (although it feels lively enough without the trailer) so it could probably do with a bit more oomph.

I quite fancy doing it but are there problems with the car running hotter if it's sucking air from the engine bay?=========

I'm sure you could fit an intercooler to a 2.4 and i'm sure results would be good, there's been a few threads about this fairly recently, but i think they may well have been for 3.0l.=========
