When looking around for my replacement I was quoted approx 511.00. Ended up by brand new for 987.00 from toyota. Had to wait 3 weeks to be shipped from Japan

Like Jotto said, what part? you don't have a front axle as such on a IFS surf, There is a the diff unit, then on one side the ADD unit (which does the 4wd selecting) then a pair of drive shafts and finally the hubs.
If you're replacing the diff you need to get the same gear ratio as the rear for the 4wd to work.
