Jet Washing

I took my 3.0td Surf to Bures at the weekend, it was my first time at a proper off-road site and it was definitely fun getting it very dirty.

But how should I clean it?
The engine bay is just as filthy as the outside.
Is it safe to just jet wash everything or are the bits or areas to be avoided?
And after washing is there anything needed to keep it going? Grease? Conditioner? A blowdry?

just dont have the jet too close when washing the engine bay

Yeah I've jet washed the engine bay before. I try not to aim directly for the dip sticks, fuse boxes, brake fluid reservoir or any electrical connectors at close range. They usually get a quick 'swipe' from further away.
