oops! broke a wheel stud

swapping a wheel today,when a wheel stud wrung off in the nut.wheel was on so tight only came off with a hammer.anyone have any experience replacing these things?and should t be ok to drive around on four for a bit? its one of the rear wheels.

Driving on 4 ?? Mine has 6, so I drove around on 5 for a month !

Which did you snap, front or back ? I did the front... and believe me its worth seeing if your wheelbearings need doing at the same time, as you have to remove all the same bits to change the stud !!

When you put in the new stud, it looks like it will never fit (won't hammer in far enough) persevere - maybe warm it up a bit with a blow lamp - it'll get there in the end.

If they are that tight might I suggest putting stud in the freezer over night and heating up the hub over the stove if you havent got a gas lamp to hand. I havent had any experience with surf but have done this with a trailer hub. Hope this helps.

just to update,yeah,mine has six too!!sorry!i've found some replacement nuts and studs(any inuendo here would be tempting,but tacky,so lets pass it by?)from milner,£1.50 a piece.i'm gonna give the job to someone else.apparantly its either a five minute job,or a two hour one,depending whether the drum has to be stripped.i'll pass on the comments on heating.dunno about the freezing bit,i can see the thinking,but i may look silly racing through town with me stud in a coolbox and police escort!

ah,that wasn't too bad after all.wheel off,drum off,then the stud just fits in from behind.wasn't fiddly or tight.i'm glad it was the back though,apprantly the front ones are bitches to do.ta for the input.
