  • Nipples

I have a worrying dry squeaky,s$$$$y noise from the front drvers side and suspect that the ball joints need lubricating. The service notes from the forum and the Haynes manual both say to remove plugs and screw in a grease nipple.
My local motor factor cannot source a nipple so I went to Toyota. Very helpful and took down all the chassis numbers etc. and eventually produced blanking plugs. I explained again that it was nipples I needed and was told that they were not a stock item and were not a special tool so they could not help.
I had the temerity to ask what they would do if I brought the car to them for a service so the part guy collared a mechanic and asked him. They just remove the plugs and apply grease as best they can.
When I went under the car to do the job I found that there are nipples on the top ball joint but they are bunged up and not allowing grease in. Has anybody found a simple solution for this?
Clearly there is no point in removing the nipples as I am unable to source new ones.
Do new ball joints from Milners include the top plate with nipples? Can one ream a nipple out?

I am sure that there are people on this forum with more experience of nipples than me so has anyone solved this problem?

I think the thread on the nipple is M6. You should be able to buy them at any decent motor factors. Failing that you could temporarily nick one out of the prop shaft (don't forget to put it back though ).

Thanks to Slim for the link and Gamedawn for the advice.

Funnily enough I did as Toyota suggested with the bottom ball hoints and the squeak would appear to have gone. Nevertheless will get nipples and do the job properly.
