Oil on transmission - right at the front

Hi

I've just been under the Surf and noticed oil around the bottom of the transmission housing right at the front where it meets the engine. While it's not dripping, it is fresh looking and a concern.

Can anyone shed a little light on this, what it means, where it's coming from etc. and the best course of action to fix it?

It's either running down the back of the engine from the valve cover gasket, or the rear crankshaft oil seal has gone.
But it maybe none of these, I'm just giving some posibilities.

Thanks for the pointers - I'll try and get in to have a look, but my spade-hands my make that a bit tricky....
