  • Grease type for bearings etc...

    Hi All,

I've been down to Halfords to pick up a grease gun and some grease so that I can sort out my wheel bearings and other grease points. According to the manual/forum posts I need two types of grease:

Lithium base chassis grease, NLGI #2 (for spiders & yokes)
Molybdenum disulfide lithium base chassis grease, NLGI #2 (for DC & ball joints)

Halfords sell the following greases but I'm not sure which to use:

    LM grease
    Moly grease
    Multipurpose grease

Does it really matter which grease is used? And why? Is there any grease that will work everywhere?

    Cheers,

    Dan

Use the dark grey Molybdium Disulphide grease in the ball joints, UJ's and steering end stops. Good for most applications.

Hmmm. Dark grey you say! Okey dokey, time to get down and greasy taking lids off in Halfords.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. What is a UJ? Got the other two sorted.

        Cheers.

A UJ is a universal joint or also known as a spider.
