  • Has anyone else had or heard this? Help!

My truck is in for the steering relay rod recall. Toyota at Rayleigh this morning call me to say they can't do it without removing the AC rad.

Something about they have never seen a Surf with the AC rad in this position and they can't do the work because it has R12 and they're not allowed to touch it. I've told them I'm not picking up the cost for a conversion as the AC works perfectly well. Has anyone else had this experience or know if they are trying it on or something?

Any advice on this would be welcomed. What are my rights to having the work done here?

    Thanks

Not sure about the a/c gas problem but the safety recall is straight forward and cant see why they need the ac rad off. Toyota have a duty to carry out the safty recal and i guess if they come accross a problem in the process then its up to them to sort it. If you get no luck out of them then i suggest speaking to toyota uk head office.
    Good luke with it.

Every 2.4 Surf from 91' on had the rads there, the steering damper bolt is harder to get at, but its no hassle really.

You can unbolt the rad and pull it down to get a bit more room without letting the gas out.

      They are being tarts.

Thanks for your response. They are waiting to hear from Japan on how to do the work now. I'm picking my truck back up tomorrow until they can sort it. That lot at Rayleigh are useless.

Mine was done at the dealers in Barnsley yesterday. I have the
underslung aircon rad, and they didn't have any problem doing
mine. Dropped it off around 10'ish, had a call early afternoon to
say it was ready. Your dealers are definitely arsing about.
