  • Auto Box Oil?

I have been quoted £105 (+ vat?) to have the auto box pumped out and refilled. I appreciate that there is a way of doing this at home but this method will save me the hassle.

So, is £105 fair or steep, and how do I know if it needs replacing? The only thing that I have noticed is that the Surf is a lot smoother with overdrive on than it is without, if that helps??

    All advice appreciated.

    Cheers

Think it should be changed every 25000 miles or so (40000km). Apparently the oil turns a darker colour and smells 'burnt' when it's well past a change / flush.
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong

    Cheers

      Auto Box Oil?

That sounds like a lot of money to me, how much does the ATX oil cost?
      £20? £30?

Unfortunately that sounds about right, £30 for the oil and one - two hours labour charge (Depending who's doing it)!?
If life's an uphill struggle then downhill from now on can't be that bad?!

Changed mine a couple of months ago with £10 Dexon II and £15 Slick 50 autobox treatment. There is a sump plug on my auto box ('94 3.0ltr) and it drained 4ltr exactly. Only did it coz we bought a caravan and was worried about towing and auto box stress.

Made no difference to the changes always been good. For my money I'd change the oil yourself and see what you think. £10 isn't alot of cash to test it.
