  • clutch squeeeek

Any ideas on this one- Upon taking off from stationary at a reasonable pace their is a loud squeek- I presume it is the clutch as when it has been fully slipped the noise stops- no such noises even when accelerating hard when the clutch is not touched. Is the clutch on the way out, althought the car is 10 years old it only has 50k km on the clock, surely not yet!? At least it does nothing more than cause me concern, no rattles bumps or vibrations.
    cheers

To test if your clutch is slipping, drive it at normal motorway speeds on a motorway and on a desent gradient hill, floor it in top gear at the bottom going uphill. If its slipping then the revs will increase faster than the car speeds up under normal driving. (If that makes sence).
Could be any number of reasons for slipping, rear crankshaft oil seal dropping oil into the gearbox, had that on my Ssangyong after only 40K mls

Hope that it isnt the clutch m8

A squeek could be either the thrust bearing, bearing thrust arm rubbing or even as simple as the cable is on its way out

I used to have a V6 manual 4Runner, it would give a 'eeek' every morning as you let up the clutch. Did this for 2 years, and probably still does it as far as I know. It was never a problem.

Surfs have a dual mass flywheel, the shock springs are in the flywheel instead of the clutch plate. you may find the flywheel is squeaking as it moves.

Personally, i'd say if its not slipping or juddering, its not worth messing with.

Thanks- symptoms sound exactly as described so that is very encouraging- if it is the thrust bearing or clutch could i get it done at a Mr Clutch it being imported and any idea how much the bottom line is likely to be?
          Cheers again
