  • Upper ball joint rubber boot

    Hello all,

Is the boot for the upper ball joint a Toyota dealer spare, or
does it match with something I may be able to pickup from a
local motor spares? Found a tear in the drivers side which
    is leaking grease

    Cheers,

    Matt

think it's an integral part of the ball joint... but the whole thing's only about £20
nee nar nee nar, i'm a fire engine!

If you can't get the boot separately, and don't want to change the joint, assuming its otherwise OK, you can always give it a thorough clean and then cover the damaged area with RTV (Silicone rubber), I've often done this in the past and the repair has lasted as long as the rest of the joint.

That's why I couldn't find the boot listed on Milner's site, then
To rephrase after that info, is the ball joint the same as any other
Toyota models, possibly available from local motor spares, or
is it easiest just to get directly from Toyota?

Might as well ask whilst I am at it, (due to the masochistic streak
in myself), how awkward is the ball joint to replace? I'll probably
end up wussing out of fitting it myself and end up sending it to the
        garage

        Thanks again,

        Matt

I'll probably give that a try first, then. From what I can see,
(head wedged in wheel arch), , the (knick|nick)? only
appears to be about a quarter inch long, if that.

          Thanks again,

Well, it's gone again. Picking up a new joint today. How hard
are they to fit? If it's fairly straight forward, will try it myself.
            Otherwise, garage job.

            Cheers,

            Matt

Its OK, you'll need a ball joint splitter it make it easy, Wedge something between the upper wishbone and its bump stop to stop the torsion bar pushing down and bob's your uncle.
