  • rear window and steering shake probs??

I have just aquired my new surf, glad to join the clan, but I have a cpl of probs that maybe you could help with, 1st , my reat tail gate window is very slow and labours to when closing , is this a common problem or should I strip and gease the window guides etc. 2nd When braking hard the steering shudders and rattles , and the brake pedal moves, ( suspect warped discs???), also steering rattles when crossing rough ground ( like too much steering freeplay, if there is such a thing on surfs??.) any help would be soundly listened to as there are no other surfers out here in the sticks of N Wales.

    Hi Martin, welcome aboard.
Sounds like you got worn suspension parts. Steering idler, pitman arm bushes, balljoints of shocks. could be one or more of these.
If the brake peddle judders, then suspect warped disks, maybe a sticking caliper piston.
John Sally is a member in your neck of the woods, he's near Conwy. click on members list and do a search there.
For your rear window, get yourself some of this and spray in the channels where the glass touches, including accross the top.....

        Two things it could be......
        1. intermitant connection on the actual lock. (remove door card and give the key lock connections a clean)
        2. possibly a broken wire where they go through the door and into the cabin near the hinges. ( a common problem caused by years of opening and closing the door hundreds of times)

Down by the throttle pedal there is a plastic panel. behind there you will find the fuses for lights etc. also some relays and the central locking gubbins.

Whenever something happens that its only the drivers door that operates ....check the "door lock" button on drivers side armrest. I'm up there every couple of months when we visit mrs daves dad, he lives on the Bangor rd in Caernarfon overlooking the straights. I'm usually found in the Anglesey Arms pub by the Castle.....
