  • Engine replacement in Surrey area?

Happy new year all. It hasn't got off to the best start for me. Driving back home to France (well to Dover at least) on Dec 22nd, my Surf started getting the fluttery-clattery noise of misfiring, accompanied by the loss of oil pressure and some power. A similar tale to this thread.

So I stopped on the shoulder on the M25 and called the AA, who dispatched their local guy to carry me into Dorking (just happened to be where I got up to). I must say, those guys from Dorking Autos were very good - especially since I only had AA Roadside cover. Unfortunately, when their guy looked at the engine he gave a top-of-the-head estimate of £3000-£3500 for engine replacement! Way over the odds I know, but to be fair they're not specialists.

Anyway, I've got myself to France for Christmas and the Surf is still in Dorking awaiting my decision. Does anyone know of a local Surf specialist who can do a supply and fit engine at a more realistic cost, or (better still) if the Great Stevo can do pickups? (it's a long way from Stockport, I know!)

The Surf isn't really driveable (or so they say), so maybe I need a combination of solutions...

    Cheers,
    tamper
