On the subject of 3rd gen gearing. Have you noticed anything with the engine brakeing using H4 4wd and L on the auto box? There is little or no useful brakeing. If I use L4, there is plenty of engine brakeing, but on dry grassy slopes I would rather not lock up the center diff.
Now I remember in the 2nd gen H4 4wd in 1st gear was a crawler downhill...
I think the auto box is great offroad, uphill. But not so good downhill
